The electrical work we take on

As your electrician in British Columbia, we handle electrical installation, safety inspections and repairs: residential, commercial and strata, from a single dead outlet in Abbotsford to a full renovation in Victoria. Whatever the job, if it needs a permit it gets one.

We are a licensed electrical contractor in British Columbia.

Canadian family owned, working across British Columbia since 2019. Four electricians, two of them holding a Class B Field Safety Representative certification. Jasjot Kohli, our owner, is Red Seal certified and the designated FSR. Our WorkSafeBC account has been registered, active and in good standing without a gap since 30 September 2019.

Residential, commercial and strata: a dead outlet in a townhouse, a panel upgrade in a rental, a full lighting replacement for FIFO Innovations in Burnaby. The job runs the same way either way — permit filed, work tested, inspection passed.

Our Story

Old wiring is our specialty

A lot of BC housing still runs on knob and tube or aluminum branch wiring. Both come up on home insurance applications in BC, and both get written up in home inspection reports. Knob and tube has no ground and its insulation gets brittle with age. Aluminum connections loosen over time and run hot at devices.

We assess what is actually there, tell you plainly what needs replacing and what can wait, and do the changeover with the permit filed and the inspection passed. If it is the older of the two in your walls, here is what replacing knob and tube wiring involves.

How a job runs

How we work, from quote to inspection

Electrical is a regulated trade in BC. Four things happen on every job we take.

  1. 01

We look at the job, then price it

Nobody prices electrical work properly over the phone, so we come and look at it. Quoting the job is free, and you get the scope and the number in writing before anyone starts.

  2. 02

We pull the permit — you do no paperwork

Work that needs a permit gets one before it starts, and we file it ourselves, in whichever municipality the job sits in. The permit is what makes the inspection, and your insurance paper trail, possible.

  3. 03

We get your approval before any extra work

If we find anything unexpected, we talk it through with you and get your approval before any extra work begins. An apprentice's work is checked by a Red Seal electrician or a Field Safety Representative, every time.

  4. 04

We are there when the inspector is

You are not left alone with an inspector — we attend, and the job closes when it passes, not when the van leaves. Before we go, we test the work and show you it running. New construction carries a one-year guarantee; renovation work six months.

What our customers say

  • This was our third time using The Wire Guys and again they did a great job! NaNak removed an old, noisy ceiling fan in the main bedroom and replaced it with a silent, modern one that works like a charm. He called before arriving, removed the old fan, installed the new fan, showed us how to work the remote control and then cleaned up the area and took the old fan away to be recycled. We are very happy with the services The Wire Guys have provided us and would recommend them for anyone's electrical needs.

  • Needed power behind my new fireplace. I fully expected I would have to repair drywall and paint after an electrician was done.Jas arrived same day I called, laid out a plan where no drywall would be disturbed. Appointment made for 2 days later. Arrived on time, Nick and Nanek did a very clean job running line behind baseboards. Everybody was very polite and respectful.

Even after the job was done, he took the time to address any remaining concerns we had. Would happily work with him again and recommend to others.

  • We had an outstanding experience with The Wire Guys Electrical Ltd.! Their team is incredibly professional, punctual, and highly respectful of your time. We initially hired them to replace the lights in one of our commercial warehouse units, and their fair pricing and excellent service quickly convinced our entire team to proceed with them for the second unit as well. Since this was a commercial project, they took all the necessary steps to ensure compliance, including verifying their insurance with the strata, confirming their license, and meeting all strata restrictions. Their attention to detail and professionalism gave us complete peace of mind. What truly set them apart was their flexibility and commitment to our needs. Since shutting off electricity during working hours wasn’t an option, they went the extra mile to complete the entire job during night shifts, allowing our operations to continue uninterrupted. If you’re looking for a reliable, professional, and customer-focused electrical company, we highly recommend The Wire Guys Electrical Ltd.!

  • I wanted to install a EV Charger for my car. I was confused between the 240v plug or the wall charger. I contacted Jas, and he recommended the $50 240v adapter. His knowledge about various wall chargers actually helped me save $650. On another note this is the only company that ever cleaned up after themselves. I highly recommend these guys.

Frequently asked questions

How much does an electrician cost in BC?

Our hourly rate is $135 for a Red Seal electrician plus a helper, which is two people on site, and that is the rate as of August 2026. A lot of jobs are flat-rated instead, priced to the work rather than the clock. Either way we look at the job first and you get the number in writing before anything starts — the estimate is free. The one thing that is not free is finding the fault: if we have to trace it, that is a $165 diagnostic for 45 minutes, and you end it knowing what is wrong and what fixing it takes.

What questions should I ask an electrician?

The four that come up most are the licence, the permit, the price and the track record. Ask whether the business is a licensed electrical contractor in British Columbia, and get that answer in writing. Who pulls the permit, and who stands there for the inspection? Get the scope and the price in writing before anyone starts. And ask about the work rather than a number: the reviews, and jobs like the one they are quoting you for.

Who can pull an electrical permit in BC?

A licensed electrical contractor, or a homeowner taking out a homeowner permit for limited work in the home they actually live in. On our jobs we pull it ourselves, in whichever municipality the work sits in, so you are not filing anything. We are there when the inspector comes out, and the job is not finished until it has passed.

Can I change a light switch or outlet myself?

BC does allow homeowners to do some electrical work in their own home under a homeowner permit from Technical Safety BC. Anything beyond a simple like-for-like swap, or any work in a rental or strata, is a job for a licensed electrical contractor. The DIY we get called out to most is EV chargers: a homeowner runs thin wire where the charger needed a heavy gauge, and the wiring burns.

What are common hidden electrician fees?

The ones that catch people out are callout or trip charges, a minimum number of billable hours, and a permit fee that turns up at the end as an extra. Ask what the number covers before you agree to it. Our rate is $135 an hour for a Red Seal electrician plus a helper, or a flat price on the jobs that suit one, with the permit inside the quote rather than added afterwards.

Is 100 year old wiring safe?

Age on its own is not the test — the wiring type is. In BC the two that come up on insurance applications are knob and tube and aluminum branch wiring, and both were perfectly normal when they went in. What matters now is whether the insulation has gone brittle, whether someone has spliced newer circuits onto it, and whether there is a ground. That is an inspection, not a guess.

Tell us what's going on with your electrical

We'll come and look at it, then tell you what the job takes in writing before any work starts. The estimate is free; tracing a hidden fault is a $165 diagnostic. Whatever the hour, someone answers the phone.
